This map of India published in 1878, shows the many provinces that existed at that time. Many interesting facts about the history and geography of India can be gleaned from this map. For example, the Bombay Presidency, included parts of the country which are now in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and of course Maharashtra. Another interesting fact: Jalgoan as a town is not seen. Dhoolia (present day Dhule) is the largest town in a province spelt as 'Candeish' (Khandesh)
