One of the eponymous rings that was not only worn by Starr throughout his career as a Beatle but also a ring that played a key role in Richard Starkey becoming known the world over as Ringo Starr. The ring features a rectangular-cut synthetic color change sapphire, within a freeform gold mounting. Starr was photographed wearing the ring as early as 1961, when he was playing with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, before becoming a Beatle. Any survey of Beatles era photographs of Starr in which his hands are visible will reveal this ring consistently on his pinky finger. While Starr played different sets of drums, wore many different suits and used many pairs of drumsticks, this ring remained a constant worn during live performances, press conferences, everyday life and even during A Hard Day's Night . Starr himself commented that he believes he wore this ring during every show he ever played with the Beatles, elevating this ring from a simple piece of jewelry to a talismanic Rock n' Roll relic.
