Part of my collection. This book was signed by owner with a date of 1889. From research I find that it was probably from around that time. At one time American publishers did not include a printing date on all their books. I really love the beauty of the covers of the books at that time, the drawings, the embossing, the gilt. The inside drawings are actually wood block prints. It is a work of fiction set in Pompeii leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

I get lucky with a few finds sometimes

S

It was in a large lot of books I cleaned out of a condo

S

How did you get it?

S

Yes and the covers attract my eye first. They were made so much better then also.

S

Wow from 1889?! That's really cool. I have to agree with you, books in that time were much better in terms of art.

S

The cover was done beautifully!
